Installation Checklist

Introduction

This checklist outlines the resources and information required before beginning the installation of the Virtual Appliance. Ensure that all necessary components, configurations, and authorizations are in place before proceeding.

Before You Start: Gather the Following Resources

  1. Hypervisor Information

    1. Ensure that your hypervisor is on the supported list:

      1. VMware ESXi 5.5 - 7.0 (OVA file)

      2. Microsoft Hyper-V - Server 2012 R2 and higher (VHDX file)

      3. Citrix Hypervisor 8.2 (OVA file)

      4. Microsoft Azure (VHD file)

    2. Ensure that you have the necessary permissions to make changes to the hypervisor or coordinate with the Infrastructure Admin team if needed.

  2. Hardware Resources for Virtual Appliance

    1. Ensure the following resources are available for the VM hosting the Virtual Appliance:

      1. CPU: 4 vCPU

      2. RAM: 8GB RAM

      3. Storage: 100 GB virtual Hard Disk

    2. Download the Virtual Appliance in your preferred format (OVA, VHD, or VHDX). For details, see Downloads.

  3. Networking and DNS Information

    1. Obtain the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) for the Virtual Appliance.

    2. Ensure that the appropriate DNS settings are in place.

  4. Active Directory (AD) Accounts

    1. Create the necessary Virtual User accounts in Active Directory and ensure they are licensed for the appropriate systems and applications (e.g., RDS CALs, Citrix, Office365, etc.)

    2. Configure the Logon Executable via Group Policy for Virtual Users at the user level (not machine level).

    3. Create an AD account for the Launcher to log in, and consider creating a service account for sending email alerts.

Account Checklist

Before you begin the installation, verify that your user accounts and logon configurations are set up correctly:

  1. Test User Login

    1. Log in with one of your test user credentials to access the target environment, applying the same authentication method as your end users

      1. This ensures that users can authenticate and access the virtual desktops or applications they will need.

  2. Active Directory User Permissions

    1. Ensure that the Virtual User accounts are correctly synchronized with Active Directory and authorized to access the target resources (e.g., Citrix, VMware, etc.)

    2. Ensure that the Admin AD User Group has appropriate administrative access to the required resources.

    3. Ensure that the Read-only AD User Group has the necessary read-only access to the required resources.

  3. Logon Configuration

    1. Ensure that the Logon Executable is configured to start during the logon process via Group Policy at the user level (not the machine level).

      1. There are several ways to fulfill this requirement:

      2. Group Policy to execute Logon Executable at Windows logon

      3. NETLOGON/ Logon Script for the Virtual User AD User

      4. shell:startup (For single-user OS scenarios, not recommended for production)

      5. shell:common startup (For multi-session OS scenarios, not recommended for production)

Launcher Resources

  1. Launcher Hardware

    1. Ensure that the Launcher machines meet the minimum hardware requirements:

      1. 2 vCPU

      2. 4GB RAM

      3. Minimum available disk space: 1GB free virtual hard disk space.

  2. Logon Configuration

    1. Configure auto-login for the Launcher machines if necessary.

  3. Launcher Software

    1. Download and prepare the Launcher software for installation on the required machines.

      1. Windows 7 and later (32/64-bit) or Windows Server 2012 R2 or later

      2. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8

      3. Client Connector Application (Citrix Workspace, VMware Horizon Client, Universal Web Connector)

      4. Login Enterprise Launcher

  4. Client Connector

    1. Ensure that the Client Connector software (e.g., Citrix Workspace, VMware Horizon, RDP, UWC) is installed and ready on the Launcher machine.

Server and Broker Information

  1. Broker Configuration

    1. Ensure that your brokers (e.g., Citrix, VMware Horizon) are configured and ready to accept connections from Virtual Users.

  2. Resource Pools/VMs

    1. Ensure that the resource pools and VMs needed for Virtual Users and Launchers are set up in your hypervisor or virtualization environment

  3. Certificates

    1. Obtain the necessary certificates (if applicable) for secure communication and ensure they are installed and configured for the Virtual Appliance and Launchers.

Additional Information to Verify

  1. Permissions and Access Rights

    1. Ensure you have the appropriate permissions to install and configure software on the necessary machines (Launcher, Target Environment, etc.). If not, coordinate with the relevant teams.

  2. Licensing Requirements

    1. Virtual User Licensing: Ensure that each Virtual User has the correct licensing to interact with the target resources (e.g., RDS CALs, Citrix, etc.)
